Who is responsible.
Roman Sutherland, trading as Nousophy, in Nelson, New Zealand, is responsible for the personal information handled through this site. Roman is Nousophy's privacy officer and the contact for privacy questions and requests.

Information kept on your device.
The current modular assessment runs in your browser. If you choose browser saving, its draft includes your answers, progress, selected modules, optional goals and context notes, and feedback on interpretations. Reports are calculated from those answers. The site can also store your theme choice. Previous assessment drafts and earlier prototype data remain separate. Earlier site versions may also have stored a browser profile, report history, unlock state or a receipt for an assessment you chose to share under the former system.
Browser information is not a cross-device account and is not sent to Nousophy merely because it is saved. The modular assessment does not import or delete Previous assessment, prototype or retired browser-profile data. Anyone with access to the same browser profile may be able to see locally saved data. Reset local progress removes the current modular draft. Use the Previous assessment's own removal control for its draft, or clear this site's stored data in your browser to remove older local data.
Assessment browser saving is optional. Without it, progress remains only in the current tab and is lost when the page reloads or the tab closes. Turning saving off removes the saved modular copy while leaving the current answers in the tab, unless another tab has changed the saved draft; the assessment explains that exception when it occurs.
Common type, the typing practice tool, automatically saves appearance and session preferences, practice goals, panel order and timed results in this browser, without a fixed result-count cap; available browser storage still limits saving. Untimed practice results last only for the current visit. Ordinary typing results and preferences are not uploaded to Nousophy. The optional ranked leaderboard described below is separate, and does not import older saved results. Use Clear history to remove timed results, or clear this site's browser data to remove all typing settings. Data from a separate private preview does not transfer to this website automatically.
Optional typing leaderboard.
Joining is optional. Before joining, you choose a public nickname and explicitly agree to automatically publish your best eligible ranked runs. Public results show your nickname, correct words per minute, entry accuracy, timer length, text style and seed, and achievement date. Ranked runs use fixed text and require at least 95% entry accuracy. Opening the leaderboard reads its public results and checks whether this browser has joined; ordinary typing needs neither step.
Joining creates a random browser identity in a secure, HTTP-only cookie. We store a hash of that identity, your nickname, sharing choice and dates in the site database. This is not a cross-device account or proof of a unique person. Clearing cookies loses your ability to manage that identity; a different browser or device is a separate entrant. Use a nickname rather than your legal name.
When you start a ranked run, Nousophy issues a timed challenge. Your first typed character starts the scoring clock and sends a start notice. At completion, the site sends encoded typing edits and their timings to the server to calculate the score and check the run. Encoded edits can represent characters you typed; they are used for validation and are not retained as an edit transcript or published. We retain the challenge and a summary receipt briefly to prevent duplicate submissions. Challenge receipts older than 24 hours past expiry, and expired rate-limit counters, are removed in bounded batches when leaderboard activity occurs. Scores that need further verification are not published.
Public bests and the browser profile remain until you leave the board or request removal. “Leave board & remove my results” stops automatic sharing and removes that identity, its challenges and its public scores. It does not clear your local typing history. If you lose the browser cookie, contact roman@nousophy.com about removal; we may need enough information to identify the result and assess the request.
We use short-lived request counters tied to the browser identity and a daily hash derived from the network address to limit abuse. We do not store the raw address in leaderboard tables. Cloudflare processes network information to deliver and protect the site as described under technical services. Server checks reduce score tampering but do not establish that every run was typed by a human.
Messages and enquiries.
The contact form collects your name, email address and message so Roman can read and reply to it. A Deep Profile enquiry also includes your session preference and any optional context you provide. These forms send an email to Roman through Cloudflare's email service; they do not add the enquiry to the assessment database or keep a separate copy in this browser.
The book-interest form opens an email draft in your own email application. Nothing is sent to Nousophy until you choose to send that email, and the website does not retain a separate browser copy.
Providing enquiry information is voluntary. Without a working email address Roman cannot reply, and without enough detail he may not be able to deal with the enquiry.
Please include only information that is useful for the enquiry. The Deep Profile form is an enquiry, not a booking or payment.
Earlier assessment submissions.
The current assessment does not offer hosted sharing and does not send answers, notes or reports to Nousophy when you complete it. The Previous assessment offers a report download; the modular assessment currently provides reports within the browser.
Before 22 September 2026, a retired assessment offered an explicit sharing form. If you used it, Nousophy may hold the name and email address you supplied, your former answers and six-aspect report, a consent record, timestamps and a private submission reference in Cloudflare's private database. New submissions to that endpoint are no longer accepted.
Earlier records are used only for the review or follow-up requested when they were submitted, applicable recordkeeping and responding to access, correction or deletion requests. They are not made public, sold, merged into the current assessment or silently rescored as current results.
Technical services.
Cloudflare provides hosting, security, database and email infrastructure. In providing those services, it may process technical request information such as an IP address, browser or device details, timestamps and security events, and information submitted through the services. Its infrastructure may process information outside New Zealand.
The home page includes a visual hosted by FragCoord. When that visual loads, your browser connects directly to FragCoord's published embed. The embed receives no Nousophy form or assessment data, and Nousophy sends it no referrer, but FragCoord and its supporting infrastructure may receive ordinary connection information such as your IP address and browser details and may use their own delivery, security or analytics technology.
The site's optional listening control loads a privacy-enhanced YouTube player only after you choose to use it. That connection sends ordinary technical information, such as your IP address, browser details and the page origin, to YouTube or Google under their own terms. It does not send assessment answers or report data.
Optional assessment read-aloud uses the speech service supplied by your browser or device. It starts only when you choose Listen or Read example. A local English voice is preferred when available; some voices use an online provider and may send that public question or example text and ordinary connection information to that provider under its own terms. Answers, notes and results are not included. The feature does not use a microphone or record audio.
Nousophy does not install advertising pixels or behavioural analytics and does not use non-essential cookies for its own purposes. Cloudflare or an embedded provider may use necessary security, playback or delivery technology under their own terms.
How information is used and disclosed.
Nousophy uses personal information for the purpose explained where it is collected: to operate and secure the site, reply to messages, handle an expression of interest, honour the purpose of an earlier assessment submission, or arrange and provide a service.
Information is disclosed to service providers only as needed to run those functions, or where you authorise it or the law requires it. Nousophy does not sell personal information or use assessment responses for advertising.
Retention and security.
Browser information remains until you remove it, clear site data or the browser removes it. Email enquiries remain in Roman's email records while they are needed to answer the enquiry and maintain any relevant business record. Earlier shared assessments are retained only while they are needed for the consented review, follow-up or an applicable recordkeeping obligation. They do not currently expire automatically, so records that are no longer needed—and any accepted deletion request—are handled manually.
Nousophy uses access controls and Cloudflare's service safeguards to protect information. No online system or email service can be guaranteed completely secure, so please do not submit information the service does not need.
Your choices and rights.
You can use the public writing and current free assessment without sending Nousophy your name or email. The former assessment-sharing feature is closed. You can contact Roman directly if you choose to discuss an exported report.
Under New Zealand's Privacy Act 2020, you can ask for access to personal information Nousophy holds about you and ask for it to be corrected. You can also ask for deletion; whether all information can be deleted may depend on why it is still needed and any legal obligation to retain it. Email roman@nousophy.com with enough detail to identify the information. Roman may need to verify your identity first.
If a privacy concern is not resolved, you can contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner.
