An optional introduction

Nousophic capacities

What have you noticed, reconsidered or acted on in the past four weeks?

Think of recent situations you can examine: a reaction you noticed, a choice you followed through on, or a view you reconsidered.

Nousophic capacities explores six proposed areas of everyday practice. The questions ask what you did when a relevant opportunity came up.

For adults exploring their own experience. These reports cannot diagnose a condition or decide who is suitable for a job or relationship.

What you can explore

  • Recall whether you noticed thoughts and feelings as they happened, and how you acted on your intentions within the options available.

  • Look at how your values and choices fit together, while taking account of bodily needs and practical circumstances.

  • Recall times when you reconsidered a belief or made room for another person's view while also expressing your own.

An everyday example

Something to recognise

Imagine a minor disagreement after a tiring day. You might notice your irritation before speaking, take time to eat, then return to ask what the other person meant. Consider what happened and what was possible in that situation.

These original questions still need research testing. They describe what you report doing recently; they do not measure wisdom, maturity or ability. Your circumstances and the opportunities you had affect what you could do.

More about this approach

Recent situations give you something specific to examine: a reaction you caught, a choice you followed through on, or a view you reconsidered.

Nousophic capacities explores six proposed areas of practice through what you report doing when a relevant opportunity arose.

  • Notice thoughts and feelings as they arise, and consider how you acted on intentions within the options available.
  • Examine the connection between values and choices while accounting for bodily needs and practical conditions.
  • Recall occasions when you reconsidered a belief or made room for another person's account alongside your own.

These original questions are exploratory and unvalidated. They describe reported recent practices, not measured wisdom, maturity or ability; circumstances and opportunities affect what you could do.

Answering the questions

Think about the past four weeks. When a relevant situation arose, how often did this describe what happened? Choose Skip / unsure if you had no opportunity to tell.

Timing is a planning estimate of 15–30 seconds per remaining question, before breaks and report reading.

  • Means use equal-weight keyed responses on the 1-5 frequency scale. A skip contributes no score. There are no norms, percentiles or diagnoses. Any categorical translation uses declared exploratory rules.
  • Each construct requires at least five of its six items answered. This coverage rule is not evidence of reliability or validity.
  • An archetype here is narrative shorthand, not a hidden character, diagnosis, measured Jungian archetype or fixed identity.
  • A range of three or more scale points flags variation for review; it is an exploratory display rule, not a psychometric cutoff or evidence of dishonesty.
  • Answers may depend on the chosen situation, recent experiences and wording. A useful interpretation still needs independent observation.
